Soroptimist International est une organisation mondiale, dynamique et active pour des femmes. Avec 3’000 clubs et 80’000 membres dans 125 pays, le Soroptimist International est aujourd’hui la plus grande organisation de femmes professionnelles qualifiées.
Le premier club a été créé à Oakland, en Californie (USA), en 1921. Il se veut une voix universelle pour les femmes.
C’est une Organisation Non-Gouvernementale (ONG) bénéficiant d’un statut consultatif auprès de l’Organisation des Nations Unies (ONU), d’un statut participatif auprès du Conseil de l’Europe et du Lobby européen des femmes, et qui contribue aux travaux de l’Organisation pour la sécurité et la coopération en Europe (l’OSCE).
Politiquement neutre, elle n’est rattachée à aucune religion.
